Oxfam and its partners Indus Consortium and Rise for Equality celebrated National Tax Justice Youth Film Festival at PMAS Arid Agriculture University. This second National Tax Justice Youth Film Festival focused on creating awareness regarding fiscal justice in Pakistan with the active participation of our youth. With the theme of “ Fair Taxation – Gender Nexus” it was a unique platform and opportunity for the youth of Pakistan to showcase their talent through short films and documentaries by highlighting how gender insensitive tax laws are adversely affecting women’s economic, social and political life.
The event and the graffiti wall were inaugurated by the Dutch Ambassador, Her Excellency Jeanette Seppen and the welcome speech was given by Oxfam’s country director Mr. Muhammed Qazilbash. Other speakers included Dr. Sajid Rashid – Principal CEES, Punjab University Lahore, Jawad Ahmed – celebrity & Social Activist and Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Arid Agriculture University.
Awards were presented for the shortlisted documentaries and the winners and all the guests released balloons outside the venue. The festival ended with Equality Music, Jawad’s talk with youth and a performance by Arid Agriculture University’s drama club.
