From 18-25 January, while the super-rich are discussing their plans for the world at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the members of the Fight Inequality Alliance (which includes Oxfam International and Tax Justice Network, among over a 100 others!) will be mobilizing around the world for the Fight Inequality Week of Action 2019 to take on the unjust distribution of wealth and power.

Please help raise awareness about the growing global inequality by teaming up to organize an event with other allies in your country and let the organization know by downloading and filling out this form: Planning form

Taxes, taxes, taxes: shifting the IFI narrative to progressive gender-just taxation

GATJ and our partners including Bretton Woods Project, Christian Aid and Tax Justice Network have put together a session event at the Civil Society Policy Forum. The event will take place on Friday, April 12, from 2:00– 3:30 PM at Location| 2-250. Come join us and find out how to challenge the IFIS’ role in shaping the new tax landscape, from a feminist perspective.

Moderator:

Our very own Executive Coordinator, Dereje Alemayehu will moderate the session dubbed “Taxes, taxes, taxes: shifting the IFI narrative to progressive gender-just taxation.”

The Speakers will include:

  1. Kathleen Lahey - Professor, Faculty of Law, Queen’s University Canada

  2. Amanda Mukwashi - Chief Executive Officer, Christian Aid

  3. Soren Ambrose - Policy Advisor, Action Aid

Finance Uncovered and Free Press Unlimited organize a five-day Introduction to Investigating Illicit Finance training AND Information Security workshop as part of the Money Trail project. Money Trail, a collaboration between Finance Uncovered, Free Press Unlimited, Oxfam Novib and Journalismfund.eu, offers trainings for journalists and CSO activists and awards grants to (teams of) journalists to develop stories on illicit finance.

Tax research and illicit finance training for CSO activists
Sep 30 – Oct 1 all-day
This training is part of the Money Trail project and is being carried out by Tax Justice Network-Africa, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre and Oxfam. The training will take place two days ahead of the Pan African Conference on Illicit Financial Flows and Tax (Oct 2-3, 2019).

The two-day training aims to build research and advocacy capacity of participants on corporate tax and illicit financial flows. The methodology will be interactive and tailored towards the needs of Civil Society Organizations and individual activists to strengthen their advocacy and research work on illicit financial flows.

The South Centre in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Tax Justice will organize this webinar that will "feature prominent voices of the Global South on the national and international tax policy options for funding the post-COVID-19 recovery.

Speakers will also provide an overview of the multilateral discussions in the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework on taxing the digitalized economy, a topic of seminal importance as it is in effect a redistribution of taxing rights between source and residence jurisdictions"
