Taxing Rural Women in Developing Countries: Best and Worst Practices @ 4 West 43rd Street, Gallery Room | New York | New York | United States
Rural women in all regions – especially in developing countries – remain disadvantaged by many
discriminatory taxation and benefit laws. This session will detail how personal income tax,
business and corporate income tax, consumption tax (VAT) laws and informal tax practices
overtax women in paid, unpaid, and subsistence work in rural regions, and how even special
business and corporate tax laws designed to support micro, small, and medium size enterprises
discriminate against women and hinder their economic empowerment. There are solutions.
