As we gather it is a critical time to come together as an alliance. We continue to counter the many systemic and interlinked inequality struggles we face across the world and take better collective steps to counter the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the few.
We have much to celebrate as an alliance – our global week of action in January was our most powerful yet, we have many national alliances starting to re-shape the discourse on inequality in their contexts and undertaking campaigning on inequality fighting budgets, for promises in election campaigns and much more. We are growing substantially – our collective reach and voice is more powerful than ever. And we have exciting plans ahead in our national contexts, and at the upcoming annual meetings for the World Bank and IMF in Bali, Indonesia, as well as next year’s January week of action. This is a great basis from us to build on and learn from.
However, we remain far from the just, equal and sustainable world the Fight Inequality Alliance has come together to achieve. Wealth and power continue to concentrate in the hands of the few, and the struggles, injustices and repression faced daily by those on the frontlines of inequality across the world remain stark.
Objectives
The global gathering will bring together existing members, those involved in convening national and regional alliances, existing networks, new organisations, artists/musicians, social movement leaders and friends who can provide challenge and support to our collective thinking from a wide range of countries.
The global gathering will:
- set direction for the alliance for 2019 onwards (from national to regional to international level)
- build our national level alliance campaigning – learn from each other, and build on synergies
- plan for upcoming global mobilisations
- develop our ways of organising
- build stronger and more diverse relationships amongst us
